TMCnet's Enterprise Call Recording Week in Review

Welcome to the latest edition of TMCnet’s Enterprise Call Recording Week in Review. This week, call recording topics focused on the legal aspects of the technology.

A TMCnet story highlighted the audio recording laws that have become a key topics for some interest groups and lawmakers.

In one recent court case, a citizen in Illinois recorded conversations with police and faced up to 15 years in prison for making the recordings when she was being questioned about a sexual harassment complaint against one of the officers. She was acquitted of the charges. The other case highlighted an artist who intentionally got arrested and recorded it on his cell phone and is also now facing a 15-year sentence for violating eavesdropping and privacy laws.

Interest groups are raising a flag because they feel the law may create an issue for anyone recording in areas where there are demonstrations and police presence.

But recording conversations isn’t all bad either. One new app, SkyRecorder 1.0 for iOS, has been introduced by eFUSION and makes it easy to record Skype (News - Alert) and other VoIP conversations.

A sort of ‘virtual notepad’ this recording capability can make it possible to remember important information from conversations – like addresses, dates, names, etc.

Check out the article HERE for more on what the new call recording app has to offer.

In another legal related issue, a Florida First District Court of Appeal recently ruled that 911 operators “can record incoming emergency calls and call-backs to the same number but cannot record outgoing calls to other numbers without consent.”

This topic was the focus of a TMCnet article this week that reminded enterprises of the importance behind understanding legal issues of call recording.

Finally, enterprise call recording solutions provider CallCopy (News - Alert) announced recently that the company saw revenue growth of 47 percent during the 12-month period ending in December 2011 – growth the company attributes to the new and updates products it released in 2011.

“2011 was a fantastic year for CallCopy as we continued to produce innovative solutions in workforce management, optimization, and analytics,” said Mark Studer, chief financial officer at CallCopy. “Our growth is attributed to both our successful products and our customer-centric staff that works tirelessly. This marks our fifth year of revenue growth in a row, and we look forward to a stellar 2012 as we continue to build our market share.”

That’s all for this week. Be sure to check back with TMCnet for all the latest in Enterprise Call Recording news as it happens. Until next week…
